Taking Pride in That Which Sets Us Apart
Presented by Shayn Anderson
This powerful presentation, based on the book by the same title, provides a fresh perspective on the experience of disability – as a quality that sets people with disabilities apart from individuals without disabilities and not below them.
North American culture is rooted in erroneous perceptions of people with disabilities as broken, damaged, and of less worth than their non-disabled counterparts. In a conversation style that is entwined with personal experience, Shayn Anderson exposes and challenges these perceptions. Delving into issues of diversity, civil rights, disability history, culture, and pride, Shayn asserts his conviction that people with disabilities need to break free from the shackles of erroneous beliefs about themselves, discover the true value of their uniqueness, take responsibility for their destinies, and make their way boldly into their futures.
Primary Audience: Individuals with disabilities who want to approach their own careers and job search with renewed confidence and pride.
Admission: Free
